Domiciliary Care and Supported Living: What's the Difference?

18 May 2026

Domiciliary care (or "care at home") is support delivered in the home you already live in — anything from short daily visits to more extensive support, depending on your needs.

Supported living is different: it means living in your own tenancy, often in accommodation set up for the purpose, with support available to help you manage daily life, build skills and stay independent.

Both approaches share the same underlying principle — helping people remain in the community, with as much choice and independence as possible, rather than moving into a residential care setting.
